Neonicotinoids The Likely Culprit In The Bee Kill OffSam Lee, EMN Reporter

The disappearance of domestic honey bees worldwide has been a mystery for a few years now. The phenomenon has been labeled as colony collapse disorder or CCD. But that mystery may now have been solved. Studies in the field have found that the sublethal exposure to neonicotinoids is likely the main culprit for the occurrence of CCD. These pesticide components have been found in soil in fields where the chemicals are not even sprayed.  Bees transfer contaminated pollen from treated crops and bring it back to their hives where the pesticide acts on their nervous system. The confused bees then abandon their nests and are destroyed in the process.

These pesticides have proven to be long-lived in the environment in spite of the claims to the contrary by the manufacturer.

A scary quote from one famous scientist is as follows “If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.” – Albert Einstein
