Tucker Carlson said a top government source told him investigators have secretly gathered materials which could finally explain sightings of mysterious aircraft reported by American airmen and civilians.

His show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, is one of the most popular primetime news programmes on American television. He is one of the most prominent public figures to seriously engage with the topic of unidentified flying objects.

But he’s also known for holding controversial views which have made him a hero to right-wingers and Trump supporters but a bitter enemy of left-wingers and Democrats.

Carlson spoke to Nick Pope, a former UFO investigator with the British Ministry of Defence, during the filming of an episode of Ancient Aliens.

The Fox News presenter said: ‘I’ve heard this from someone who I think is knowledgable in the subject.

‘There is physical evidence that the US government is holding which would tell us a lot more about what these objects are.

‘The person who told me is someone who worked on this within the government for many years who would know.

‘I asked point-blank: “Is there physical evidence of these objects, these aircraft?”

‘And he said: “Yes there is”.’

Pope then asked Carlson if this evidence was the wreckage of UFOs, to which he replied: ‘That is correct.’

Over the past two years, the topic of UFOs has moved into the mainstream following a serious of revelations about a secret government-backed project called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP).

Carlson has covered the story on his show and interviewed the head of AATIP.

Nick Pope told Metro: ‘Getting an interview with Tucker Carlson was an extraordinary coup for the Ancient Aliens producers, not only because he’s an influential mainstream media figure, but also because of his close ties to President Trump.

‘Indeed, earlier this year Tucker accompanied the President on his historic trip to North Korea, and asked him about UFOs in an interview that he did in the margins of this visit.

‘Tucker has been one of the few big-name media figures to champion the issue of UFOs.

‘He immediately saw the significance of the revelations concerning the Pentagon’s AATIP program and has run numerous features on this still-unfolding story over the last two years.’

The world first heard about AATIP when footage of an encounter between an F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet and an oval-shaped UFO travelling at astonishing speed was released.

Pope added: ‘I’ve been a guest on his show Tucker Carlson Tonight eight times now and the Ancient Aliens producers thought it would be interesting to reverse the dynamic by asking me to interview Tucker, asking him about President Trump’s position on UFOs, the videos of US Navy jets chasing UFOs and and his own role as someone who champions the issue and keeps it in the public eye.’

Pope admitted that Carlson is a ‘controversial figure’ but welcomed his support.

‘His forthright views make him a popular figure with Republicans, but something of a bogeyman for Democrats,’ Pope continued.

‘That said, the UFO issue isn’t a political one and getting a media heavyweight like Tucker on Ancient Aliens is a news story in its own right, and is yet more proof that the subject of UFOs is attaining a mainstream credibility that it’s never had before.

‘The part of our interview that generated the most excitement was Tucker’s revelation that the US government has what he described as ‘physical evidence’ and ‘wreckage’ of UFOs.

‘When I pressed him, he – perfectly understandably – declined to name his source, but described the information as having come from ‘someone who worked on this within the government for many years, who would know’.

‘The UFO community has speculated that this was a reference to Luis Elizondo, the Defense Intelligence Agency official who managed AATIP.

Tucker has interviewed Elizondo before, and Elizondo has previously confirmed the existence of UFO-related ‘metamaterials’ – some from ‘governmental’ sources.

‘Some of this material now seems to be in the hands of the To the Stars Academy of Arts and Science, for whom Elizondo now works. It was recently confirmed that TTSA signed a partnership agreement with the US Army, to ‘leverage developments in material science, space-time metric engineering, quantum physics, beamed energy propulsion, and active camouflage’.

‘The suspicion in the UFO community is that this is all about seeding recovered extraterrestrial technology into the US military industrial complex, using a non-governmental organisation to give the US government a degree of plausible deniability.’

We still don’t know the identity of Tucker’s source, but Pope said there was ‘some logic to the suggestion that Tucker’s source for the ‘wreckage’ claim was Luis Elizondo’ but also stated that there is ‘one fundamental problem with the theory’.

‘Essentially, why would Tucker feel the need to protect the identity of a source who had already gone on the record with him on this issue?’ he asked.

‘It doesn’t make any sense and that raises the intriguing possibility that Tucker has a second source who – unlike Elizondo – is not prepared to go public.

‘While this is only speculation, one might theorize that the reason for this is that this second individual is still in government.

‘The ramifications of this would be staggering and could have profound implications for the UFO community’s holy grail – disclosure.’
