Oxford academic Dr Young-hae Chi claims that humanity has been having some very close encounters indeed.

Dr Chi, who is an instructor at Oxford’s Oriental Institute, is certainly no stranger to ‘out there’ theories and believes that intelligent extraterrestrials are not just visiting, but also living among us.
In a 2012 lecture entitled ‘Alien Abduction and the Environmental Crisis’, Chi cited the work of US abduction researcher Dr David Jacobs who argues that extraterrestrials are attempting to colonize our planet by interbreeding with its human population to produce a new hybrid species.
Chi argues that these extraterrestrial visitors may be reacting to major threats to mankind such as climate change and the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
“It is not only scientists and theologians, but also non-human species who appear to be greatly concerned about the survivability of the human species,” he said. “It may be more or less assumed that the hybrid project is a response to this impending demise of human civilization.”
By doing more to tackle climate change, he argues, “not only can we save ourselves, but also prove aliens wrong in their judgment of our moral capacity.”
In 2018, Dr Chi approached The Oxford Union about holding a formal debate on these concepts but his proposal was ultimately turned down.
“Judging from the way the ETs are acting they have a better view of our future, perhaps it is pointing to a pessimistic future,” he told The Oxford Student.
“So, they come not for the sake of us, but for the sake of them, their survival, (but their survival is actually our survival as well) the survival of the entire biosphere. That is where I progressed in developing my theory and I’m still looking for more evidence to support my view.”
